The state of the economy has been a topic of concern for many businesses for quite some time now. With the possibility of a recession looming over us for the past 18 months, companies are treading cautiously when it comes to their financial decisions. However, amidst this uncertainty, the need for qualified CFOs remains as crucial as ever.

Steve Nave | Funko

Funko, the pop-culture toy company, has named Steve Nave as its CFO and COO. Nave had been working as a consultant for the company since December 2022. Prior to joining Funko, Nave held various executive leadership roles at Walmart.com, where he served as the CFO, COO, and CEO. He also served as the CEO of Bluestem Brands, which is the parent company of several e-commerce retail brands.


Alvin Lobo | Skillz

Alvin Lobo, who successfully led Score Media and Gaming through an IPO as their CFO, has been appointed the Finance Chief for Skillz - a mobile games platform. Lobo has gained extensive experience in the gaming industry throughout his career, having previously worked as the Vice President of Corporate Finance for Boyd Gaming and as the Director of Corporate Finance and Investor Relations for Wynn Resorts. In addition to this, he has also held prominent positions in investment banking at Barclays Capital, Lehman Brothers, and Bank of America.


Christine Dorfler | National Football League

Christine Dorfler has been named the CFO of the National Football League (NFL). With over 20 years of experience at NBC Universal, including almost eight years as CFO of NBC/Telemundo-owned television stations, Dorfler joined the NBC sports group as Finance Chief in May 2019. She is also a U.S. Army veteran. Joe Siclare, the previous CFO, will remain with the league as Executive Vice President of Finance and League Policy.


Josh Burke | Thrasio

Thrasio, a company that helps consolidate and scale companies that sell products mostly on Amazon’s marketplace, hired Josh Burke as its new Finance Chief. Burke was previously the CFO of Gopuff, a consumer goods and food delivery company, and also served as CFO for Backcountry.com, an online retailer of outdoor clothing and gear. He began his career at PwC and gained extensive financial experience working for the global sportswear brand Under Armour. Burke takes over from Brian Cooper, who assumed the CFO role in 2021.


Tiffany Smith | Lulus

Tiffany Smith has been promoted to Chief Financial Officer at Lulus, a women's fashion brand. Smith previously served as the Vice President of Finance at Lulus since April 2021, and has extensive experience in senior finance and controller positions at various fashion and e-commerce retailers such as Fashion Nova, Hot Topic, and Nordstrom. She succeeds Crystal Landsem, who has now taken on the role of Chief Executive Officer at the company.


James Budge | Hinge Health

James Budge, who was previously the CFO of Automation Anywhere, a software company, has been named as the new CFO of Hinge Health, a digital clinic specializing in joint and muscle pain. Budge has extensive experience in top finance positions, having served as the CFO of Pluralsight, a technology learning platform, and Anaplan, a software company. He has also held dual roles as CFO and chief operating officer at Genesys and TiVo.


Saloni Varma | Thorne HealthTech

Thorne HealthTech, a science-focused wellness company, has named Saloni Varma as its new CFO. Varma comes to the company from Motif FoodWorks, a food technology firm, where she held the same position. Prior to that, she served as the CFO of ByHeart, a baby nutrition company, and held several finance leadership roles at Dove, Chobani, and Talenti. Varma began her career in accounting at KPMG.


Richard Kraska | Infobip

Richard Kraska was appointed CFO of cloud communications company Infobip. Kraska joins the business from RealPage, a provider of real estate software, where he served as Finance Director Chief. Prior to that, he held the position of Vice President of Finance at memory company Western Digital and spent 16 years at GE. Kraska takes over from Mario Baburić, who is stepping down from his role as CFO after three years to pursue a new career path.


Marsha Kublall | O’Reilly

Marsha Kublall, who formerly served as Vice President of Strategic Finance and Analytics for Blink Fitness and Vice President of Corporate Strategic Planning and Investor Relations for Cole Haan, has been appointed as the Chief Financial Officer of O'Reilly, a learning platform. Kublall has also held various finance-related positions, including Investment Banking at JPMorgan and Corporate Strategy at J.Crew.


Megan Binkley | Root

Megan Binkley has been appointed as the interim CFO and Treasurer of Root, an auto insurance company. She joined Root in April 2019 as the Chief Accounting Officer and has been serving as the company's deputy CFO since November 2022. Binkley has taken over from Robert Bateman, who was dismissed by Root due to personal misconduct that came to light on February 24, less than a year after he joined the company. It's worth noting that the misconduct was unrelated to Root's financials or financial reporting.


Thomas Whayne | Overair

Thomas Whayne has been appointed as the Finance Chief for Overair, a company that specializes in manufacturing all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft. Prior to this, Whayne served as the CFO for OneWeb, a satellite operator, where he was responsible for spearheading a $3 billion capital raise to support the development of a worldwide broadband communications network. He also was Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer at Maxar Technologies, a company focused on Earth intelligence and space infrastructure.


Brian Dow | ProSomnus

Brian Dow has been appointed CFO of ProSomnus, a manufacturer of sleep apnea devices. Dow's prior experience includes serving as the CFO of Agendia, a molecular diagnostics firm, and as the CFO and Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration at Pulse Biosciences, a medical technology company. He has held various financial officer positions, such as Vice President and Principal Accounting Officer of Pacific Biosciences of California, and Chief Financial Officer of Northstar Neuroscience.


Rebecca Levine | Curbio

Curbio, a company that provides home repair services with an emphasis on the real estate market, promoted Rebecca Levine to Finance Chief. Levine has been the company's corporate controller since 2018. She has worked as a corporate controller for a number of businesses, including Tracx, WeddingWire, and Vanda Pharmaceuticals. Also, she worked with KPMG and Lockheed Martin as a senior associate.


Matthew Commons | Algorand

Algorand, a blockchain and cryptocurrency platform, has appointed Matthew Commons as its inaugural Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining Algorand, Commons founded and served as President of Common Partners, a fintech and blockchain advisory firm. He also brings with him a wealth of experience from his earlier roles, having previously been the founding CFO of cleantech company Ogin, as well as holding strategic and financial positions in energy firms such as The NorthBridge Group, LS Power Equity Advisors, and American Electric Power.


Terry Murphy | LastPass

LastPass hired Terry Murphy as its new Chief Financial Officer. Murphy comes from the software-as-a-service life sciences company Qualio, where he served as CFO for eight months. He has also held the position of CFO at Kenna Security, Whitehat Security, and Luminate.


Carlos Smith | Paragon Space Development

Carlos Smith has been named CFO of Paragon Space Development, a provider of environmental controls for extreme and hazardous environments. Prior to joining Paragon, Smith held various CFO roles, including at IAI North America's aerospace division and DRS Technologies. Most recently, he served as CFO at Dawson Operating Companies. Additionally, Smith also brings 14 years of experience as an internal auditor in the U.S. Army Reserve to his new role at Paragon.
